Fifteen-year-old granddaughter Zadrian, was recently inspired to connect each lesson (ie chapter) in my book to a Bible verse. With her permission, I share the last 16 her 32 observations. Enjoy!
—————————————————————————————————————–
Lesson 17: Know When to Speak and When to Be Silent
Knowing when to speak and when not to is a very important quality to have in any work environment. Psalm 37:30 talks about how the mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks with justice. So that being said, if you are in right standing with God, he will give you wisdom.
“The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just.” – Psalm 37:30 (NIV)
Lesson 18: Use Power to Influence Causes You Believe In
When using power to influence causes you believe in, if you are unwise about what you say and are wishy-washy, then no one will listen to you, and your opinion will become irrelevant. I thought of Proverbs 17: 27-28 because it talks about how even if a fool is silent he will seem wise.
“The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.” – Proverbs 17: 27-28 (NIV)
Lesson 19: Identify Leadership Style and Look for a Fit
Everyone has different personalities and styles of doing things. We should get jobs that go with our work styles and personalities. I thought of Romans 12:6 because it talks about how we are all different and each have unique abilities.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” – Romans 12:6 (NIV)
Lesson 20: Know Thy Culture
If you are being employed as a leader or just an employee, you need to knmow the culture of where you are working. Because you might need to focu on tone working style to fit the culture of your environment. I though of II Timothy 2:15 where it talks about studying to show yourself approved. Because if you study the culture you will know the culture.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” – II Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
Lesson 21: If You Can’t Explain It, Don’t Do It
If you can’t explain what you’re doing then don’t do it. Its not worth making a fool out of yourself to try to explain what you’re doing. Galations 6:5 talks about how every person shall bear their own load. Everyone had to take responsibility for their own actions.
“for each one should carry their own load.” – Galatians 6:5 (NIV)
Lesson 22: Potential Repercussions Await Every Decision
Assess the upside and downside of every situation, and think of the consequences your decision will bring before you make it. James 1:5 talks about asking God to give you wisdom for important decisions.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)
Lesson 23: Avoid the Mulberry Bush at All Cost
Stay strong in everything you do. Don’t back down from a difficult position, and persevere. I thought of Colossians 1:11 because it talks about how God gives us endurance.
“being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.” – Colossians 1:11 (NIV)
Lesson 24: Work at Making Friends of Adversaries
Make friends with important people. Be nice to everyone. You don’t have to be friends with people you don’t like, but that doesn’t give you the right to be mean to them. I thought of John 15:12 because it talks about loving each other as how God first loved us.
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” – John 15:12 (NIV)
Lesson 25: True Friends are Hard to Find in Politics
In any form of relationship the only way it will last is if you have trust, respect, and open communication. I thought of Ecclesiastes 4:9 -10 because it talks about how it’s good to have a friend who can help you when you fall.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9 -10 (NIV)
Lesson 26: Be Careful in What You Wish For
Knowing what you want to do with your life is very improtan. Knowing what you want your future to be will help you make decisions that will benefit your future. I thought of Psalm 37:4 because it says if you delight yourself in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart.
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Lesson 27: What Goes Around Comes Around
This lesson is simply about what goes around comes around. So I thought of Galations 6:7 because it says whatever a man sows he shall reap.
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” – Galatins 6:7 (NIV)
Lesson 28: Do the Right Thing, Even for the Wrong Reasons
Look into each step and how it will benefit you in the future before you take them. I thought of James 1:5 because if you ask God for wisdom to make the right decision he will give it to you.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)
Lesson 29: Sometimes You Just Have to Do It.
Don’t be too scared to go after what you want because you might fail. Failure is a part of life. I thought of Psalm 73:26 because even though we may fail God is our rock, strength and portion forever.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” – Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
Lesson 30: “It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over”
When opportunity arrives, it’s good to be prepared. I thought of Proverbs 24:27 because it talks about preparation.
“Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.” – Proverbs 24:27 (NIV)
Lesson 31: Always Be Prepared for the Curve Ball
Never be afraid fo the unknown, because in the end it’s not about our own paln for our life, it’s ab ou God’s plan for us. You don’t need to know where you are going if you’re following what He says. II Corinthians 5:7 says we walk by faith not by sight.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” – II Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
Lesson 32: Never Judge a Book By It’s Cover
Never judge a book by its cover. You never know what other people are going through, even if you think you do. I thought of Matthew 7:1-2 because it says that if you judge others you will be judged, too.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Matthew 7:1-2 (NIV)
