Lesson 9: Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
What makes a successful leader is communication and timing. There is always a time to make a certain statement, and there is always a time to keep quiet. I thought of Ecclesiastes 3:1, because it talks about how there is a time for everything.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)
Lesson 10: Your Words are Your Bond: Choose Them Wisely
Your words mean so much. Your word can either help or hurt your career. I thought of Proverbs 15:28 where it talks about how the mouth of the righteous and wise waits to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
“The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.” – Proverbs 15:28 (NIV)
Lesson 11: Loyalty, Yes, but Not at All Costs
Loyalty is a very important trait and is something that needs to be kept, especially when it comes to your career. Loyalty can be tricky at times because sometimes you have to move on. I thought of Proverbs 21:21, because it talks about if you seek righteousness, loyalty, and loving-kindness you will find righteousness and honor.
“Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperityand honor.” Proverbs 21:21(NIV)
Lesson 12: There are No Secrets in the Big Tent
The truth is better than any spread rumor even if the truth is embarrassing. I thought of Luke 8:17 because it talks about how there is nothing hidden that shall not be disclosed nor anything secret that shall not be known.

Lesson 13: Seize Those “Bernard King Moments” and Enjoy
Don’t take the special moments and great accomplishments for granted. Really take time to celebrate people’s accomplishments. I thought of I Thessalonians 5:11 because it talks about building each other up and just celebrating with them.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” – I Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)
Lesson 14: If You Have to Eat Crow, Eat It While It’s Hot
If you make a mistake take of it as soon as possible. The longer you wait to fix your mistake the harder it gets. I thought of Proverbs 28:13 because it talks about if you own up to what you have done you will obtain mercy.
“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” – Proverbs 28:13 (NIV)
Lesson 15: Seek Ways to Make Other People’s Lives Better
Going out of your way to lift people up or encourage them doesn’t just do good for the person you are lifting up, but it also does good for you. I thought Hebrews 10:24 because it talks about how we should stir up love and helpful deeds unto people.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,” – Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)
Lesson 16: Inside a Bureaucracy, Pick Fights Carefully
You will always have to deal with people you don’t like, but the best way to handle them is with love. I thought of Proverbs 10:12 because it talks about how hatred gets you nowhere. There will always be people in your life that will make your life more difficult. We can’t avoid them so we might as well love them.
“Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” – Proverbs 10:12 (NIV)
